THE COOK AT THE PRINCESS ANNE FIREHOUSE

The Princess Anne Firehouse isn’t an old building, and I would have never suspected that it was haunted. The fire chief saw our tour walking past the building and pulled us aside to tell us about the goings-on inside the firehouse. He said he comes in by himself during the day from time to time, and he’ll hear movement on the second floor. When he investigates to see what’s up there, no one is in the building. He said it happens often. A volunteer fireman said that they’ve seen an African American woman in there in the middle of the night. This fireman said they’d be asleep, wake up to the noise and look through the dark and notice a shadow of a person walking up the stairs. Of course, when they investigate, there is no one there. Another fireman who saw the same shadow of the black lady said that it’s probably the spirit of a woman who used to always bring them food. She was a cook at the Washington Hotel, and she’d often bring food over for the firemen, or she brought food for events that happened on the second floor. Recently, they did some renovations on the second floor and installed some nice bunks where the volunteers could sleep. During the renovations, they removed an old framed portrait of a previous captain of the fire department. It was left leaning up against a radiator. In the middle of the night, the firemen in those bunks were awakened by the sound of that portrait falling over and the sound of shattered glass. When they got up and saw the portrait face down, they picked it up but noticed that there was no shattered glass. They replaced it again, securely leaning it against the radiator, and went back to bed. One hour later, it fell over again and woke them up. One of the firemen got a nail and hung the portrait, and the rest of them went downstairs to sleep. Some of them say that they still won’t sleep up there. The Princess Anne Firehouse had so much paranormal activity that they called in investigators to do a full-blown investigation.
